A business can only work to full potential when all its staff are able to pool their knowledge and work collaboratively on projects.
But some people believe that the increasing popularity of homeworking could potentially make it more difficult than ever for some businesses to work in absolute collaboration, especially as their employees could be in a completely different country to one another.
Thankfully the same technology that has allowed levels of homeworking to increase exponentially is now also revolutionising the way people work collaboratively together online. This technology is referred to as either ‘cloud computing’ or ‘SaaS’ (Software-as-a-Service).
Those terms may sound confusing, but the concept is not actually that complex. Because the software is not installed anywhere on your personal computer you can simply log in to your account using a web browser and the information you enter is updated on the servers of the software provider in real-time.
So this means businesses no longer have to worry about hardware compatibility between PC and Mac or stress about constant backups. Because everyone in their company accesses the same server simultaneously, businesses are able to work collaboratively together in real-time on projects from whatever distance.
This kind of collaboration can even extend further to include people outside your business, such as an accountant or freelance worker. Businesses always get the most benefit from an outside source when they are able to work closely with them and get them more directly involved.
This technology allows for more immediacy and transparency in the relationship between businesses and third parties outside of their organisation. At WinWeb we refer to this kind of collaboration as being an integral part of the Business Cloud Framework.
