The winner of WinWeb’s Pitch of the Week competition this week is Marcus Simpson of Direct Sitters. Direct Sitters is a short-term house sitting service based in London; giving people the opportunity to go about their day-to-day lives as normal, rather than having to wait in for a delivery or repairman. We spoke to Marcus about his business:
“I started Direct Sitters in March 2009, after always wanting to start my own business. Driven by a desire to be my own boss and wanting to better myself, starting my own business was the only reasonable life plan for me.
The idea for Direct Sitters arose from personal experience of having to stay at home to wait in for a plumber. I quickly realised what a waste of my time this was, and this sparked the idea for Direct Sitters.
I conducted thorough market research and discovered that there was a significant gap in the market with no short-term house sitting services available for these occasions. Direct Sitters in my mind fills this gap perfectly.
Direct Sitters provides a short-term house sitting service, and allows people to have deliveries or repair work carried out without having to take a day off work or lose a day’s pay.
I love working for myself; directly seeing the gains from my hard work and sacrifice makes it all worth it. I strive to provide customer satisfaction, so nothing makes it all seem more worthwhile than providing a great service and seeing my customers wholly satisfied.
Building my own business has been difficult, but I have had help from The Princes’ Trust and received some great mentoring advice from other entrepreneurs.
All the hard work has absolutely been worth it and I would wholly recommend anyone who is thinking of starting their own business to do so!”
