Congratulations to John Stevens, the latest winner of our Pitch of the Week competition. His small business ‘Lighting Sensations‘ provides a wide range of lighting solutions to their customers. We spoke to John to find out more:
“My business is essentially responsible for optimising the amount of light in any environment we are asked to look at. Our work is very varied – one day we will be lighting an indoor climbing wall and turning it into a work of art, then the next we could be lighting a beautician training suite.
The business formally started 12 years ago, but even before that we were dedicated to installing lighting schemes and experimenting with effects and technologies, gradually learning what works best. We will either work from plans or survey an area, marking what style and type of light should be used. There are four of us in the company and we would like to expand more, but also keep the intimacy of being a smaller business.
The main problems we have faced have been too little investment funding and taking too long to figure out how to do all the ‘boring bits’ (cashflow, budgets etc.) of running a company correctly. We have also had trouble trying to find the right person to add to our excellent team. Expansion of the team is our long-term goal.”
John Stevens and his team have managed to take years of experience and build a successful business. Have you got a similar great story of your business success? If so, enter our Pitch of the Week competition to win some free PR!
