This week’s winner of our competition is Jeremy Campbell, the owner of a small business called Socially Collaborative Media. Jeremy’s innovative company provides a platform for people to connect and collaborate on video projects.
We recently spoke to Jeremy to find out more about his business and here is what he had to say:
“Our business is divided into two unique web properties, Spidvid and Unleashvideo. The first of these, Spidvid, is where individuals get together to create video and film entertainment together. Our Spidvid users are able to build up a portfolio and profile, form collaborative teams, post or bid on video production products and then release the completed project through our UnleashVideo website, getting full credit and earning cash for their work.
The company originally began as a video sharing website, but after seeing similar aggregation sites enter the market I was driven by a desire to stand out from the crowd. My first thought was to start a small entertainment studio, but the market was already crowded. I decided to take inspiration from my hero Seth Godin to build a new and original platform instead, with a focus on collaborative projects and letting anyone in the world put together a video / film creation team.
The main obstacle we have faced as a business is trying to gain traction and raise attention for something new and non-traditional. However, we recognise that this is a necessary part of our growth as even Twitter was once a foreign concept to everyone just a few years ago.
In five years time I see Spidvid powering the Web’s open video / film production ecosystem and transforming the studio-closed industry that exists today. I am currently searching for angel investment and capital to build my team and make this dream a reality.”
Jeremy wasn’t satisfied with his business until he had found a niche that wasn’t crowded that he could make his own. Do you also have a unique business story to tell? Perhaps you should enter next week’s competition then!
