Congratulations to our latest competition winner, Chelsea Singh of Wild Lotus Patisserie. Wild Lotus is a bakery specialising in vegan and vegetarian options and providing customised made-to-order baked treats online via their website. We spoke to Chelsea to find out more about her business:
“I started Wild Lotus Patisserie in the past year and the business has operated mainly online, with a few wonderful regular local customers! The idea for the business came to me because I am a vegan myself and have always found it difficult to find items that I can eat at my local bakery. A few years ago, I couldn’t even find a vegan cake for my wedding so my husband and I were unable to eat any!
As soon as I came up with the business idea, I immediately had interested customers and have had regular orders ever since launching. My business model is no eggs, preservatives, food coloring, additives etc and everything is fresh and mostly organic. I also always customise the wrapping and look of the product, allowing my passion for creativity to run free!
The main problem I have encountered so far is difficulty in securing the funding to start and run my own physical bakery. Because I am still a student, I don’t have the savings to even put a down payment on a loan.
Ultimately I would love to be able to open a physical bakery because I am 100% confident that the business would be a success and flourish. I already have the ideal vision in my mind, even down to the décor and products. Hopefully this will be the beginning of a new trend of health conscious bakeries catering to individuals with specific dietary needs, whilst also providing traditional, great tasting and visually appealing products.”
