If you have not thought about an email newsletter as a marketing tool, you should do it now. It is cost effective, quick and when email marketing software is used to manage it, highly effective. A small business has as great a chance of benefiting from email marketing as a corporate giant. A newsletter can help drive customers to your website and business locations, promote products, generate sales and generally give exposure to your business. However a communication that is not focussed will achieve precisely nothing.

The golden rule is to decide exactly what outcome you want to achieve and tailor your document accordingly. Do you want to advertise specific products or boost the company image?

It is critical to be audience aware. Irrelevant, uninteresting email will be deleted before even being opened wasting everybody’s time, including yours. One communication probably does not fit all. Email marketing software can effectively filter your audience to ensure they receive only what is relevant to them. It will also keep track of what communications you have sent.

Do not over-sell. If your sign-up offered something specific (a free sample or report) then make sure you deliver promptly. Treat your communications as regular building blocks for a lasting relationship. Remember that each recipient has a personal relationship with your company so treat them as individuals. Address by name wherever possible.
