This week’s winner of WinWeb’s Pitch of the Week competition is Kai Chew, Managing Director of KafeChew EduTech Co. a company that offer complete actuarial information and applications for actuarial students.

Like many of our Pitch of the Week winners, Kai encountered a problem in his own life, and set up his business in order to solve that problem for others.

“The idea for KafeChew Actuarial EduTech Co. was started before I due to start an Actuarial degree. Studying Actuarial Sciences means learning the discipline that applies mathematical and statistical methods to assess the risk in the insurance and finance industries. This is obviously a vast subject, and my friends and I wished to look in to the subject before we began our studies; but this proved harder than we anticipated.

Instead of finding one source that provided all the information we needed, instead we found ourselves having to trawl through numerous websites and colleges in order to get the information we needed. Almost certain that many other actuarial students would feel the same way, we had the idea for a one-stop shop for actuarial information and KafeChew Actuarial EduTech Co. was born.

KafeChew Actuarial EduTech Co. started by providing basic information, and study materials, but the progressed in to an actuarial social network site and is now branching in to providing actuarial software and productivity applications.

We are really excited about the future of KafeChew Actuarial EduTech Co. as we currently have lots of projects underway, including a web-based mock exam system that is aimed at helping students to pass their actuarial exams by providing free practice tests.

It is my hope that KafeChew will expand sufficiently to be able to provide our products and systems globally, and to also offer actuarial investment consultancy.

Setting up KafeChew Actuarial EduTech Co. has allowed me to combine my passion for actuarial science and my drive to succeed in business – I have every hope for our future success.”
